Notary Tips

Do NOT SIGN a document until you are in the presence of the notary unless it is an Acknowledgement Certificate only.

Prior to notarization, please complete all blank spaces. If you have questions about how to complete the document, contact the originator of the form/document as a Notary Public is unable to provide legal advice or assistance in the drafting and/or completion of documents.

Every Signer must physically appear, be coherent and present acceptable ID at the time of the notarization. The original document must be presented for all copy certifications. Any public record or documents such as vital record (birth, death, and marriage) can’t be notarized.

Types of ID Required

One of the main functions of a Notary Public is to positively identify signers for legal, financial, and other types of documents. We accept unexpired valid State ID, State Driver License, Passport, Government/Military ID, and Consular ID’s. Signers must be present for all notarizations, no exceptions.

Notary Restrictions

We cannot notarize a document if the signer is not personally known to the Notary or does not have satisfactory identification confirming the signer’s identity. The signer must also be lucid. Clients with Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, other mental degenerative diseases that affect lucidity will not be notarized by Signed & Sealed Notary Group.

We can’t be a witness to a document we are also notarizing.

We can’t notarize a blank signature page.

We can’t notarize if there are blank spaces/lines above the notary section. This does not apply to blank sections that have “for official use only,” or similar wording.

We are not attorneys and cannot advise, amend, or dictate what wording should be on a legal document.
